About the Institute

Department of Physics has six state of art laboratories and highly qualified faculty members. It aims to provide holistic development of the students with highest quality education. This will help them in fulfilling their thirst for knowledge and also prepare them for ever growing competitive world of professions and research.

  • The Department offers Under Graduate courses in Computer Science and Masters in Physics.
  • We train our students to perform best in college and face the outside world effortlessly where they can work as leader, entrepreneurs and get reputed positions in Govt. or Non-Govt organizations.
  • We also encourage our students to build their career in scientific research. We do so by setting examples with our own well equipped research laboratory and high-quality publications of international repute in various areas of Physics such as Materials Science and Nano-research, Thin-film and Polymers Science and Laser Physics.
  • In addition to the Central Library of IPS Academy which has books on every form of knowledge in abundance, the Department of Physics has its own library dedicated to the subject with book ranging from basic Under Graduate courses to advanced topics of Masters as well as of research.

  • To explore the Academia-Industry interaction department has signed four MOUs with Esteemed institutions.

  • E-learning centre of IPSA helps us to record the lectures of faculty members to conduct online webinars, quizzes smoothly which are made available online for the students and others on the IPSA YouTube channel. 

Achievements

  • Alumni of Department of Physics have been selected in various national level examinations such as CSIR-NET, JEST, GATE etc, and are working in prestigious research Institutes such as RRCAT and ISRO.

Alumni students pursuing Ph.D. in different institutes are as follows:

  • Akash Gayakwad of batch 2016-18 had qualified NET (JRF) 2020 and pursuing research from BITS, Pilani.
  • Deepesh Nimje of batch 2017-19 is in RRCAT indore after qualifing JEST as well as GATE in 2020.
  • Abhishek Prajapati  of batch 2017-19 is in ISRO Trivandrum. He qualified GATE in 2020.
  • Shyam Gurjar of batch 2018-20  had qualified JEST 2021 and presently he is in KLEF Hyderabad.
  • Md. Usman Raja of batch 2018-20 had qualified GATE 2022 and presently he is in IIT Madras.
  • Abhijeet Nair of batch 2014-16 had qualified NET (JRF) 2023.
  • Shubham Ojha 2021-23 had qualified SLET 2023.
  • Ravindra Choudhary 2015-17 had qualified SLET 2023.
  • Yugal Kishore 2020-22 had qualified TET 2022

Students cleared JAM Exam are as follows:

  • Praveen Patidar (JAM Maths) in the year 2020 and is currently working as a software engineer in Collins Aerospace.
  • Ram Jitesh (JAM Physics) in the year 2023 and is currently waiting for IIT counselling.
  • Purnima Jawar of batch 2019-21 has been awarded Mohanlal Kishanlal Pandya Rajat Padak for holding 1st position in M.Sc, Physics in DAVV in  the year 2021.

Innovative Experiments

  • Innovative Instruments design and development:
  • Department of Physics has designed, developed and fabricated microcontroller based following instruments along with programming of the experiment required for the microcontroller:

  • Newton’s Law of Cooling
  • ‘g’ measurement
  • Phase Shift Generator for Lissajous Machine
  • Electronic circuit for Foucault Pendulum

  • Verification Inverse Square Law by magnet-magnet interaction
  • Verification of moment of inertia by parallel and perpendicular theorem
  • Coupled Oscillator
  • Barton’s Pendulum
  • Modulus of rigidity by static method

New instruments designed and developed to understand the basic methods/process of Physics  are:

  • Calculation of Cauchy Constant using different glass prisms
  • Statistical method of determination of torsion and angle of twist in cylindrical rod     
  • Foucault Pendulum microcontroller based of one meter height
  • Verification of Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction with different magnetic flux
  • Verification of ‘g’ by alternative method
  • Specific heat measurements of different materials (Aluminum, brass and bronze)
  • Jumping Ring Experiment
  • Double Cone Anti-Gravity Experiment
  • Installation of Microcontroller based Foucault pendulum in engineering building
  • More than 80 experimental electronics kits prepared by the students under the Best Practice Scheme. These experiments are now performed by students. One of these experiments designed and fabricated by Ankit Singh and Divakar Sharma won the Gold Medal  in  Vigyan Mela  organized  by MPCST at Burhanpur , March 13 to 15,  2015.

Awards to the equipments :

  • Won third prize in “National competition of innovative experiments in Physics (NCIEP)” for demonstration of the experiment entitled “An alternative method to verify the laws of parallel and perpendicular axis of moment of inertia and to determine the torsional rigidity of the steel strip” and organized by Indian Association of Physics Teacher (IAPT) at Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar from 29th -31st  October, 2017. This experiment was presented by Dr. Usha Singh.
  • Won Second Prize in “National competition of innovative experiments in Physics (NCIEP)” for demonstration of the experiment entitled “Portable Foucault Pendulum” organized by Indian Association of Physics Teacher (IAPT) at Kadi Sarva Vishwavidhalaya, Gandhinagar from October, 2016.
  • Won First Prize in “National competition of innovative experiments in Physics (NCIEP)” for demonstration of the experiment entitled “A microcontroller based machine for Lissajous figures” organized by Indian Association of Physics Teacher (IAPT) at Khalsa College, Chandigarh University, Chandigarh from 10th -12th October, 2014.
  • Participated in “National competition of innovative experiments in Physics (NCIEP) and demonstrated the experiment entitled “Experiment to study growth and decay of current in a LR circuit” and was considered Best within Ten Experiments organized by Indian Association of Physics Teacher (IAPT) at Khalsa College, Chandigarh University, Chandigarh from 10th -12th October, 2014. 

Research Center:

  • Devi Ahilya Vishwavidhyala had considered Department of Physics as a research center since 4/11/2022. Four faculties are registered in DAVV as research guide.
  • Research Papers Published: Since 2009 total number of research papers published = 109
  • Total Impact Factor = 116
  • Total H-Index = 21

  • Project completed: 05
  • No. of students registered for Ph.D. : 11.
  • A minor project entitled “Structural, morphological, optical and electronic property investigation of doped polymers and polymer blends as a function of concentration and annealing temperature” funded by MPCST, BHOPAL ( Rs. 3,70,000/-) REF: R&D file No. A/RD/RP-2/2014-15/225 for two years.
  • A major project entitled “To study high quality ultra thin metal island sandwiched between thin Pt, Au or Ag layers via multilayer Deposition” funded by UGC-DAE-Consortium of Scientific Research, Indore Ref.: CSR-IC/CRS-153/2015-16/10 for four years.  Funded amount in four years was Rs. 9,12,000. Under this project Risabh Bisen was awarded Ph.D. degree.
  • Collaborative Research Project completed:  A major project entitled “In-situ exchange bias study of magnetic nanocaps deposited onto self-assembled polystyrene nanospheres” funded by UGC-DAE-Consortium of Scientific Research, Indore for four years in collaboration with Dr. Anupam Sharma, Manipal University, Jaipur. Under this project Yogesh Kumar was awarded Ph.D. degree. Ref.: CSR-IC/CRS-148/2015-16/05
  • Collaborative Research Project completed: A major project entitled “Preparation and characterization of refractory ceramics based polymeric composites” funded by TEQIP Scheme, RGPV, Bhopal for one year  in collaboration with Dr. Jyotsana Singh, RGPV, Bhopal. Ref No. RGPV/Teqip-III/2019/04/624
  • Khagolika project entitled “Telescope handling and sky gazing for rural students”  funded by MPCST, BHOPAL ( Rs. 2,00,000/-) REF:  5249/CST/S&TPP/2012-13. Under this project the faculty members Dr. Jaiveer Singh and Dr. Mayank Sharma visited the rural schools around Indore. The complete list is given below:

Research Laboratory:

  • We have established Nanotechnology Lab in the year 2008 -13 in central building first floor. After that this lab is merged into the newly established Material Science and Polymer Research Laboratory in IES, ground floor. And now it is well equipped Research Lab and shifted to Department of Physics, ISR block C, IPSA.
  • Post graduate students along with research scholar’s work in this lab to synthesize samples for their research work.
  • Ph.D. Awarded under faculty.
  • Four students under Dr. Jitendra Tripathi has been awarded Ph.D. degree namely Rakhi Chitnis, Govind Singh Chandravat, Yogesh Kumar, Risabh Bisen.

Best awards in International/National Conferences:

  • Dr. Jaiveer Singh was awarded First Prize for Best Paper Presentation (oral) in the “National Conference in Emerging Trends in Physical and Chemical Sciences” held at Govt. Holkar Science College, Indore during 15-16th March 2014.
  • Dr. Anjali Jain was awarded the First prize for Best Paper Presentation (oral) in International Conference entitled RAITEA - 2019 held during 14 th -16 th Feb’ 2019 at IES, IPS Academy, Indore.
  • Dr. Usha Singh was awarded the SECOND PRIZE for Best Paper Presentation (oral) in Conference on Traditional Science And Technology In Higher Educational Institutes under Madhya Pradesh Vigyan Sammelan & Expo (MPVS -2021) jointly organized by IIT Indore, MPCST and Vigyan Bharati during 22nd-25th December 2021.
  • Prafull Joshi, PG Student was awarded the First PRIZE for Best Innovative of “Panipuri ATM” Experiment in Conference on Traditional Science And Technology In Higher Educational Institutes under Madhya Pradesh Vigyan Sammelan & Expo (MPVS -2021) jointly organised by IIT Indore, MPCST and Vigyan Bharati during 22nd-25th December 2021.

  • Dr. Rishabh Bisen was awarded the First prize for Best Paper Presentation (oral) in National Conference at Manipal University, Jaipur
  • Miss Garima Shakargaye was awarded  the First prize for Best Poster Presentation in a conference entitled “ Frontiers of Physics”, Vikram University, Ujjain
  • Dr. Jaiveer Singh was Awarded fellowship for training of Young Scientist of M.P. Council of Science & Technology in 30th M.P. young Scientist Congress held at Vigyan Bhawan Bhopal during February 28-March 01, 2015.

Foreign Visits by Faculty for Research Purpose:

  • Dr. Anjali Jain Represented Department of Physics, IPS Academy, Indore at International level by presenting research paper entitled “Synthesis and studies of annealing kinetics of Iron oxide nanoparticles” in International Conference 6th Asia-Oceania Forum for Synchrotron Radiation Research (AOFSRR-2012) at Bangkok, Thailand during 8th -12 th August 2012.
  • Dr. Jaiveer Singh visited Japan twice to KEK, Photon Factory Japan for Experimental Research Work funded by Department of Science & Technology. Details are as follows:
  • To study Low temperature XRD/GIXRD of 1-10 nm mono disperse Nickel Nanoparticles from 31st May-9th June 2013.
  • To study XRD/GIXRD of mono disperse Nickel nanoparticles prepared by Trioctylphosphine (TOP)/Triphenyl Phosphine (TPP) from 11th -19thNovember 2015.

Research Projects to PG students:

  • All the PG students do research project in the IV semester under the guidance of the faculties of the department. Also, we guide students of Biotech in the IV semester to do their research project in the field of Nanotechnology.

International/National Webinar conducted:

1.     One Week International Webinar on “Materials Characterization and the Analysis” organized by Department of Physics, IPS Academy, Indore (M.P.), India during May 25-31, 2020.

2.     Lecture Series entitled “Physics for Curious Minds” was conducted from December 2020 to March 2021

Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) Activity:

  • National Graduation Physics Examination (NGPE) conducted by IAPT:
  • One of our experiments entitled “Measurement of wire diameter using Laser diffraction” suggested by Dr. Usha Singh has been selected in NGPE Part C- experimental section held on 4th June 2023. Also, our department conducts this examination for our students on behalf of Indian Association of Physics. Dr. Jaiveer Singh is examination coordinator.
  • Dr. Usha Singh is Treasurer in Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT), RC-9 Madhya Pradesh Region from January 2019- December 2024.
  • EC meeting was held by RC 9 M.P. region at Physics department of IPS Academy Indore on 22nd and 23rd April 2017. This meeting was conducted by Prof. B. Chakrabarti, General Secretary IAPT and president by Prof. H.C. Pradhan, President of IAPT. About 50 delegates from all over the India participated.
  • Dr. Usha Singh  was invited as a "Team leader" of Indian Team at the Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO)- 2022. The event was organized in Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala Coliege, Ghatkopar(w), Mumbai-400086 hosted by  Graphic Era Hill University, Dehradun, India between May 23 - 31, 2022

  • Science exhibition in the memory of Late Prof. Babulal Saraf on the occasion of his birth centenary year in association with Indian Association of Physics Teachers RC-9. Title of the program was, “Prof. Babulal Saraf Memorial National IPSA Science Exhibition and Science Show” on 23rd January 2024.
